How to Choose Your Abaya Length
Share
The right length is what makes an abaya look effortless. Too short and the line breaks; too long and the hem gathers at your feet. Here is how to choose with confidence.
What the sizes mean
Our ready-to-wear abayas are offered in lengths 54, 56, 58, 60 and 62. As is customary across the Gulf, the number is the length of the abaya in inches, measured from the top of the shoulder to the hem. So a size 56 is 56 inches long. Our Size Guide lists the shoulder, sleeve and bust measurements for every size.
How to measure yourself
- Stand straight in the shoes you will wear most often with the abaya.
- Ask someone to measure from the highest point of your shoulder, beside the neck, straight down to where you want the hem to fall.
- For a graceful line, most women choose a hem that just skims the top of the foot.
- Convert to inches if your tape is in centimetres (divide by 2.54), then choose the closest length.
Things that change the answer
- Heels. If the abaya is for an evening in heels, measure in those heels. Many women keep a slightly longer piece for occasions.
- Silhouette. Flowing, flared designs are forgiving; tailored and column silhouettes, like many in The Executive Edit, look best at a precise length.
- Embellished hems. Where crystals or embroidery run along the hem, the right length keeps the detail visible and protected.
If you are between lengths
Choose the longer length if you often wear heels, or the shorter if you mostly wear flats. If you would like it exact, add your measurements on the product page: every piece can be tailored to you at no extra cost. For a fully made-to-measure design, see bespoke or ready-to-wear.
